Missed your Air India flight? How to rebook, check fees, and protect your return

The plane left. Here’s what to check before buying another ticket.

QUICK ANSWER · 30 SECONDS

Contact whoever issued your ticket now. Air India’s passenger FAQ describes a two-hour window after departure to cancel or request a change after a no-show. Rebooking may involve a no-show penalty and change charges. Ask whether your onward or return flights are still active. If Air India caused you to miss a connection, ask about disruption options first.

Can I rebook after missing my Air India flight?

You may be able to change your ticket, depending on your fare and availability. If you booked directly, open Air India Manage Booking. If a travel agency or booking site issued your ticket, start there. Ask for the total, including any no-show penalty, change fee and fare difference, before you decide whether to rebook or buy a new ticket.

Can I get a tax refund after an Air India no-show?

Ask the ticket issuer to check the unused taxes and fees separately from the fare. Air India’s passenger FAQ says refunds are unavailable after its two-hour window. Its refund page also describes airport-tax refunds for no-shows and lists different terms by fare and market. Ask which amounts apply to your ticket.

Message to your ticket issuer

I missed Air India flight [flight number and date]. Please confirm which unused taxes or fees are refundable for this ticket. If I can still rebook, please send the total cost and confirm whether my onward and return flights are still active.

Will Air India cancel my return flight if I miss the outbound?

It can. Air India’s Conditions of Carriage say the airline may cancel onward or return reservations if you miss a booked flight without telling it. The conditions also require segments on the same Air India-issued ticket to be used in order. Confirm each remaining flight before buying a replacement outbound.

If an Air India delay or cancellation caused you to miss a connection on the same ticket, ask Air India about rebooking or refund options for the remaining journey. If you bought separate tickets, tell the airline upfront. Keep your original itinerary and the disruption notice.
